How might a blog support the work you do? How might you use a blog with students? How might they respond to a blog assignment? What concerns do you have about educational blogging?
Now I am feeling really frustrated. I just finished spending about 20 minutes talking about thing 3, and after I published it I found a small error. I went back to edit the post and ended up deleting the whole thing! Arg-g-g-g!!! Consequently, my comments will be much shorter this time.
I do see how blogs could be used to keep parents and students informed of assignments, etc. I also could envision giving students an assignment which would then require them to comment (in Spanish, of course) on a particular topic. I am still wary of publishing to the world, but, I am somewhat comforted to know that the settings on a personal blog can be adjusted to allow for viewing and posting by only those who are authorized. The overarching question still remains...where will the time come from to set up and maintain this tool?
The assignment was an interesting foray into the blog world.

Things 1 & 2
Why are you participating in 23 Things? What do you hope to learn? What new insights did you have during Thing 1? How does writing on the Internet, knowing anyone could read it, change how you write or feel about writing?
This was a somewhat frustrating exercise for me, but I guess new learning can be frustrating sometimes. I think that I was finally able to finish the first two items by sheer luck, a good measure of perseverance...and by whining to Joan J. who held my hand and provided a large measure of moral support! This entire course contains elements that are all new to me and after viewing the video and reading the article for "things 1 & 2" my sense of feeling overwhelmed at the enormity of the task is exacerbated. I found myself wondering why in the world I had signed up for this during the school year! But, hopefully I will be able to complete my subsequent tasks with a little less frustration and experience a sense of accomplishment. It it always good to challenge yourself to learn new things and helps a teacher to relate to how students feel every day in the classroom.
There are several reasons that I signed up to take this course. First, I am hoping to ultimately be able to use some of these ideas in the classroom. I, also, hope to simply expand my knowledge base so that I can try to keep up with my students. In addition, I have stayed away from social networking sites and even posting information on listserves because I am quite frankly intimidated by writing for the Internet with the knowledge that it could be read by anyone. Perhaps the knowledge and confidence I gain here will help me to overcome that fear. Finally, it's just "cool" to know about this stuff!
